Christianity’s Extraordinary Solution to Believing in God in a World of Evil and Pain

Dr. Travis Dickinson returns to the age-old question: Why does God allow evil? Often, in our philosophizing about this problem, we leave out the most important answer: Jesus. Jesus was God in the flesh and came to earth to suffer and die. God knows what suffering is like.

  1. I once asked a question to the Lord.
Lord why do you allow evil to exist in the World.
He replied “Why do you allow evil to exist in the world, I’ve given you all power over the enemy.”

  2. promising magic presents after one is dead is a very convenient thing to do. No need to ever have to show this is true. That we have no evidence for this god or its son/self, there is no reason to believe in it. We also have the problem that in the bible, this god says it causes evil as well as good, but most Christians try to ignore that part. Its working with its supposed evil archenemy also makes it rather hard to believe that this entity is good in any sense.

  3. I’ve always loved this quote by Philip Yancy about suffering. “Virtually every passage on suffering in the New Testament deflects the emphasis from cause to response. Although we cannot grasp the master plan of the universe, which allows for so much evil and pain (the Why? question), we can nevertheless respond in two important ways. First, we can find meaning in the midst of suffering. Second, we can offer real and practical help to those in need.”

I wrote a blog post about Why God Allows Suffering. If you are interested you can read it here: https://rethinknow.org/2020/01/13/why-does-god-allow-suffering/
