It is often claimed that the Bible not only permits but encourages slavery. Of course, this is ridiculous. Gavin Ortlund explains what “slavery” looked like in the Bible and explains why God is opposed to every form of slavery.
Why It’s Wrong to Say the Bible Is Pro-Slavery

John MacArthur provides a solid response to this ongoing question. In essence he explains that Jesus did not come to change existing social order but calls us to be obedient wherever our life post is. Jesus did not abolish the oppressive Roman government, even when they tortured our brethren. Of course we’re not to “obey” authorities when they oppose God’s word but to honor God where He has us.
The example of slavery is aptly used to describe our place in Christ, ‘doulos’ is Greek for slave.
Good post, press on brother!

Slavery is definitely sanctioned in the bible and has been used to justify the practice throughout history.
