  1. “Christianity at heart is a religion not of self-help, but divine rescue.” I like this line. I think it illuminates a misconception held by many people both inside and outside of Christianity. It is true that following Christ will help you become a better person, and that is the major purpose for much of the teaching in the Bible, but the story of divine rescue trumps all of the other purposes.
